How much electricity does an electric oven use?

Baking with preheating uses e.g. 1.4 kWh, about 1.46 PLN at 1.04 PLN/kWh. With two bakes a week an oven uses about 146 kWh a year, about 152 PLN.

kWh/yr = W × h/day × 365 ÷ 1000
kWh/yr = kWh per cycle × cycles per week × 52
cost = kWh/yr × price of 1 kWh

An estimate. Fixed charges on the bill are not included. Appliances with a thermostat (fridge, oven, water heater) draw full power only part of the time, so label data works better for them.

Why an oven does not draw full power all the time

An oven draws full power while preheating. Then the thermostat switches the elements on and off to hold the temperature. That is why the cost is counted per bake, not as power times time. An oven energy label gives the use for one test cycle, separately for conventional and fan heating.

How to bake for less

A fan oven lets you bake at a lower temperature and on several trays at once. Do not open the door without need. Every bake a week fewer saves about 73 kWh and about 76 PLN a year.

Frequently asked questions

How much does one bake cost?

A bake that uses e.g. 1.4 kWh costs about 1.46 PLN at 1.04 PLN/kWh. Longer baking and higher temperatures use more.

Which uses less: an oven or a microwave?

For reheating a portion, the microwave. 10 minutes at 1.2 kW input is 0.2 kWh, about 0.21 PLN, several times less than baking in the oven.

How much electricity does an oven use per month?

With two bakes a week at 1.4 kWh, about 12.2 kWh, about 13 PLN a month.
