Your numbers

  • Fridge-freezer: 250 kWh from the label = 250 kWh; 250 kWh × 1.04 PLN = about 260 PLN a year
  • Induction hob: 1,200 W × 40 min ÷ 60 × 365 days ÷ 1000 = 292 kWh; 292 kWh × 1.04 PLN = about 304 PLN a year
  • Oven: 1.4 kWh × 2 × 52 weeks = 146 kWh; 146 kWh × 1.04 PLN = about 152 PLN a year
  • Electric kettle: 0.1 kWh × 4 × 365 days = 146 kWh; 146 kWh × 1.04 PLN = about 152 PLN a year
  • Microwave: 1,200 W × 10 min ÷ 60 × 365 days ÷ 1000 = 73 kWh; 73 kWh × 1.04 PLN = about 76 PLN a year
  • Dishwasher: 0.9 kWh × 5 × 52 weeks = 234 kWh; 234 kWh × 1.04 PLN = about 243 PLN a year
  • Washing machine: 0.7 kWh × 4 × 52 weeks = 146 kWh; 146 kWh × 1.04 PLN = about 152 PLN a year
  • TV: 80 W × 4 h × 365 days ÷ 1000 = 117 kWh; 117 kWh × 1.04 PLN = about 122 PLN a year
  • Router: 10 W × 24 h × 365 days ÷ 1000 = 88 kWh; 88 kWh × 1.04 PLN = about 92 PLN a year
  • LED lighting: 8 W × 3 h × 365 days ÷ 1000 × 15 units = 131 kWh; 131 kWh × 1.04 PLN = about 136 PLN a year
  • Standby: 20 W × 24 h × 365 days ÷ 1000 = 175 kWh; 175 kWh × 1.04 PLN = about 182 PLN a year
  • Vacuum cleaner: 900 W × 1 h × 52 days ÷ 1000 = 47 kWh; 47 kWh × 1.04 PLN = about 49 PLN a year

An estimate. Fixed charges on the bill are not included. Appliances with a thermostat (fridge, oven, water heater) draw full power only part of the time, so label data works better for them.

How to use the calculator

  1. Use the switches to include the appliances you have at home and exclude the ones you do not use.
  2. Click Edit next to an appliance and enter its power and running time or the yearly use from the energy label.
  3. If something is missing from the list, add your own appliance: name, power in watts and hours of use per day.
  4. Check the price of 1 kWh. If you know it from your bill, enter your own.
  5. Click Calculate usage. The result updates with every change, and the button below the ranking copies a link to it.

How we calculate electricity use

For appliances calculated from power: kWh a year = power in watts × hours of use per day × 365 ÷ 1000. An 80 W TV watched 4 hours a day uses 80 × 4 × 365 ÷ 1000, which is about 117 kWh and about 122 PLN a year.

Washing machines, dishwashers, dryers and ovens are easier to calculate from cycles: kWh per cycle × cycles per week × 52. Fridges and freezers have the yearly use on the energy label, and the water heater is based on the number of people: 900 kWh of heat per person a year, as in the heating cost calculator.

What the calculator leaves out

The cost is kWh times the price of 1 kWh with energy and variable charges. Fixed charges (capacity fee, fixed network charge, subscription fee) are not included because they do not depend on your appliances. Space heating is not included either: use the heating cost calculator for a heat pump or electric heaters.

The power on the rating plate is the maximum power. A fridge, oven or water heater draws it only while the compressor or heating element runs, so for them enter the use from the label or from a plug-in energy meter.

How to read the result

With the default settings the induction hob costs the most (about 304 PLN a year), followed by the fridge (about 260 PLN) and the dishwasher (about 243 PLN). Standby, 20 W around the clock, adds about 175 kWh and about 182 PLN a year, more than the washing machine.

For comparison: according to GUS, the Polish statistics office, a household electricity customer used 1,833 kWh on average in 2025. If your meter shows much more, check the appliances that heat. An electric water heater for four people uses about 3,600 kWh a year and an air conditioner in hot weather about 288 kWh.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the electricity use of an appliance?

Multiply the power in watts by the hours of use and divide by 1000. The result is kWh. An 80 W TV used for 4 hours uses 0.32 kWh a day and about 117 kWh a year. The cost is kWh times the price of 1 kWh: at 1.04 PLN/kWh about 122 PLN a year.

How much electricity does an average home in Poland use?

According to GUS, a household electricity customer used 1,833 kWh on average in 2025. In the calculator a typical set of 12 appliances, without a water heater, dryer, computer or air conditioner, uses about 1,845 kWh, about 1,919 PLN a year.

Which appliances use the most electricity?

The ones that heat water or air. An electric water heater for four people uses about 3,600 kWh a year, more than the whole typical set of 12 appliances in the calculator. Among kitchen appliances, the induction hob, fridge and dishwasher usually cost the most.

Will the result match my bill?

Not to the złoty. The calculator leaves out fixed charges and assumes example running times. Compare the yearly kWh on your settlement invoice with the result. If the difference is large, measure the appliances that run all the time with an energy meter: the fridge and equipment on standby.
