Assumptions and formulaPrices from 7 October 2026
grid energy (AC) = 18 kWh ÷ (1 - 7%) = 19.35 kWh/100 km
DC charger energy = 18 kWh/100 km
cost of 100 km = energy × price of 1 kWh
your mix = 80% × 20.13 PLN + 10% × 37.74 PLN + 10% × 48.42 PLN = 24.72 PLN/100 km
yearly = 24.72 PLN × 15,000 km ÷ 100 = 3,708 PLN
petrol = 7 l × 6.79 PLN/l = 47.53 PLN/100 km

How to use the calculator

  1. Set your yearly mileage with the slider, or click the number above it and type the kilometres.
  2. Enter the energy consumption from the trip computer and the charging losses: keep about 7% for a wallbox, enter about 15% for a regular socket.
  3. Set what share of your kilometres you charge at home and at public AC chargers. The rest is DC fast charging.
  4. Pick the G11 tariff or the G12 night zone, or enter the price from your bill. Check the charger and petrol prices.
  5. Click Calculate cost. After that the result updates with every change.

How we calculate the charging cost

The trip computer shows the energy used from the battery. When you charge with alternating current, at home or at AC chargers, part of the grid energy turns into heat in the on-board charger. In the 2026 ADAC study this was 5.1-7.0% with an 11 or 22 kW wallbox and 12.7-24.2% with a regular socket. With 7% losses, 18 kWh/100 km on the trip computer means about 19.35 kWh taken from the grid.

The cost of 100 km is that energy times the price of 1 kWh. At home on G11 (1.04 PLN/kWh) it comes to about 20.13 PLN, at an ORLEN Charge AC charger (1.95 PLN/kWh) about 37.74 PLN, and at a DC fast charger (2.69 PLN/kWh) about 48.42 PLN. The DC charger meter measures the energy delivered to the car, so we add no losses there. Your mix is the average weighted by the shares, multiplied by your mileage.

EV or petrol

A petrol car using e.g. 7 l/100 km at 6.79 PLN/l for Pb95 costs 47.53 PLN per 100 km. In the example with 80% home charging the EV is cheaper by about 3,422 PLN a year. If you charge only at DC fast chargers, a year costs about 7,263 PLN, more than petrol.

The Pb95 price is the e-petrol average of 7 October 2026, when the maximum prices of the CPN programme (announced until the end of 2026) applied. Petrol may get dearer after that, so enter the price at your own station.

What the calculator leaves out

The result does not include fixed charges on your electricity bill, charging network subscriptions, parking fees or buying and installing a wallbox. It does not compare the price of the car, servicing or insurance either.

If you charge at home, check the capacity fee. In the example the car takes about 2,323 kWh a year at home, and the capacity fee goes up once the yearly use of the whole meter exceeds 2,800 kWh.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to charge an electric car at home in Poland?

At 18 kWh/100 km and 7% charging losses the car takes about 19.35 kWh per 100 km from the grid. On the G11 tariff (1.04 PLN/kWh) that is about 20.13 PLN per 100 km, in the G12 night zone in the PGE area (0.6111 PLN/kWh) about 11.83 PLN.

How much does a DC fast charger cost?

In the ORLEN Charge network 1 kWh at a DC charger costs 2.69 PLN under the price list from 1 April 2026. At 18 kWh/100 km that is about 48.42 PLN per 100 km, more than twice the cost of charging at home on G11.

Is an EV cheaper to run than a petrol car?

On energy alone it usually is, if you charge mostly at home. In the calculator example (15,000 km, 80% home charging) electricity costs about 3,708 PLN a year and petrol at 7 l/100 km about 7,130 PLN. Charging only at DC chargers makes the EV dearer.

Where do I find my car's energy consumption?

On the trip computer: take the average kWh/100 km over the last few thousand kilometres. It is higher in winter, when the car heats the cabin and the battery. The trip computer does not show charging losses, so the calculator adds them separately.
