How many m³ of gas does a house use? Gas usage calculator
A 150 m² house insulated after 2000, with hot water for four people, uses about 19,579 kWh of gas a year, about 1,784 m³. At 0.31 PLN/kWh that is about 6,069 PLN without fixed charges. Enter your floor area or the conversion factor from your bill.

Assumptions and formulaPrices from 11 October 2026
Heat demand
Q = 150 m² × 100 kWh/m² + 4 people × 900 kWh = 18,600 kWh
Amount of fuel
V = 18,600 kWh ÷ 0.95 ÷ 10.972 kWh/m³ = 1,784 m³
Season cost
19,579 kWh × 0.31 PLN/kWh = 6,069 PLN
Heating season month
4,894 PLN ÷ 7 + 1,175 PLN ÷ 12 = 797 PLN

How to use the calculator
- Enter the floor area, insulation standard and household size, or type the heat demand in kWh.
- Check the gas price per kWh, boiler efficiency and the conversion factor from your bill.
- Click Calculate usage and read the m³ and kWh per year and the season cost.
Gas use of a 100-200 m² house
For houses insulated after 2000, with hot water for four people and a 95% condensing boiler: 100 m² about 1,305 m³ (about 4,438 PLN), 120 m² about 1,497 m³ (about 5,091 PLN), 150 m² about 1,784 m³ (about 6,069 PLN), 200 m² about 2,264 m³ (about 7,701 PLN).
Insulation changes the result more than floor area. An uninsulated 150 m² house uses about 3,224 m³ for about 10,964 PLN, and a new WT 2021 house of the same size about 1,209 m³ for about 4,112 PLN.
How to convert m³ of gas to kWh
The meter measures m³, and the supplier bills kWh: it multiplies m³ by a conversion factor based on the gross calorific value of gas in your area. The calculator uses 10.972 kWh/m³, the nominal 39.5 MJ/m³ divided by 3.6. Your own factor is printed on the bill next to the use in m³.
At 0.31 PLN/kWh 1 m³ of gas costs about 3.40 PLN without fixed charges. You pay the fixed charges (subscription and fixed distribution fee) regardless of use, so the calculator leaves them out.
Frequently asked questions
How many m³ of gas does a 120 m² house use?
A 120 m² house insulated after 2000 with four people uses about 1,497 m³ of gas a year, about 16,421 kWh. At 0.31 PLN/kWh that is about 5,091 PLN without fixed charges.
How many kWh are in 1 m³ of gas?
About 11 kWh. For high-methane natural gas with a nominal gross calorific value of 39.5 MJ/m³ the factor is 10.972 kWh/m³. Your bill gives the exact value for your area.
How much gas does a house use in a winter month?
A 150 m² house insulated after 2000 with hot water for four people spends about 797 PLN on gas in a heating season month (e.g. 7 months). The average over the whole year is about 506 PLN a month.
